The Mater Private Hospital Springfield

The Mater Group is meeting the growing healthcare needs of the Springfield City community through the Mater Private Hospital Springfield (MPHS). 

Stage One of MPHS is an 80-bed, $85 million hospital providing a range of medical and surgical services as well as a combination of inpatient, day and chemotherapy beds supported by $21.4 million in Australian Government funding for a cancer care centre. 

Mater Group has entered into an agreement with Metro South and West Moreton Hospital and Health Services to provide treatment and care to 4800 uninsured patients at the hospital each year, in addition to insured patients. In essence, the Mater Private Hospital Springfield provides care to both private and public patients, providing a hub of world-class medical services for the entire Springfield City community. 

Mater Springfield Stage 2

Stage 2 expansion of the hospital will meet the current and future health needs of the rapidly growing Western Corridor and provides the State Government with a number of significant advantages over other options for delivering hospital services in the region.

The expansion will deliver the following infrastructure:

• 174 public overnight and same-day beds, bringing the total number of beds to 233
• Intensive Care Unit and maternity services
• a much-needed Emergency Department
• more operating theatres and endoscopy suites
• increased clinical capability for more complex care to be delivered locally.

Mater Private Hospital Springfield Specialists & Facilities

The Springfield City community is very fortunate to be receiving the care and support of Mater. The 10,000 m² facility includes four operating theatres, inpatient wards, a day surgery unit and medical imaging services. The state-of-the-art  Icon Cancer Centre Radiation and Oncology offers medical oncology via Mater Hospital and radiation oncology provided by Icon Cancer Centre. 

There are also 15 medical oncology treatment bays and one linear accelerator for radiation therapy treatment. Mater Private Hospital Springfield offers a range of medical and surgical specialities which can be accessed only via GP referral. These specialties include:

• General Medicine;
• Medical Oncology;
• Radiation Oncology;
• Haematology Services;
• Rehabilitation; Respiratory; Ear, Nose and Throat;
• Gastroenterology;
• General Surgery;
• Gynaecology;
• Ophthalmology; Oral and Maxillofacial;
• Orthopaedics;
• Plastics;
• Dermatology and Urology. 

Mater has a master plan for the hospital precinct within Health City Springfield Central, which incorporates a number of expansion stages which will be rolled out to meet the demands of the region. In total, the Mater Private Hospital Springfield is preapproved for a staggering 1200 beds/ MPHS will offer an innovative, unique and contemporary model of holistic care and will provide patients exceptional acute and sub-acute treatment and care, while also promoting wellness and illness prevention. 

Stage 2 of the Master Plan would increase the total number of beds at Mater’s Springfield hospital to 234 with 174 public patient beds and the remainder for private patients.
