Discover Springfield City

The University of Queensland Centre for Community Health and Wellbeing

In early 2022, UQ and SCG agreed it would be advantageous for Springfield City group to provide funds to UQ to jointly contribute towards the establishment of a Chair for Community Health & Wellbeing.

The Centre for Community Health and Wellbeing is Australia’s first community health focused research centre based within community.

Wellbeing is such an important future growth area. Keeping us out of hospitals, helping us live better and better for longer.

UQ research can bring the science end credibility to explain and demystify so that every individual has the best information to manage themselves and their family.

Things you are doing today, or not doing today (eg adequate movement), will have enormous impacts on us in the next decade and the one after that. For example, your stability and strength will either enable or disable everyday activities later in your life. Carrying the shopping, picking up your grandchildren, chasing them around the park.

The UQ CHW Centre located within the community here in Springfield, will enable direct two way communication – to make sure the research programs are relevant and of direct applicability to the residents of Springfield and their families. This direct engagement with the University, not just at an individual project level, but long term, is very rare at the moment, but it is the future of academic and community interaction.

The Springfield City Group partnership with The University of Queensland is enabling this exciting new interaction.
