The third Festival of Learning successfully completed last week, hosted a different approach to futures thinking with Thinking Theatre 2023, stepping away from the lectern and stage approach, by going into a film studio.
Aimed to create a more spontaneous, diverse long form discussion, Dr Richard Eden, EGM Education and Smart City Enterprises at Springfield City Group, engineered an unstructured conversation with special guests in front of TV cameras and a live studio audience at the University of Southern Queensland, Springfield.
This unique theatre setting offered glimpses into the thoughts, opinions and challenges in A Future in 2043: Dreamland. Camera work and the floor manager on the night were third-year students at the School of Creative Arts. This in itself is a learning exercise.
Stepping into the future (The Year 2043), Angela Gooley, Frank Gannon, Suzanne Hawksley, Michael Crutcher and Trung Thành Ngô offered glimpses into the challenges we may encounter in the future – in front of the TV cameras and a select studio audience!
Engineered and moderated by Dr Richard Eden, this was role play to explore together the uncharted territories of learning and thinking in the year 2043 – envisioning a future where technology, AI, and virtual reality where intertwined with ethical decision-making, and the impact on learning and our thinking.
This is thought leadership in action.
The recording is “as is” – with no post production. It has provided learnings for the future on how to explore new ways to share and undertake a deeper dive into long form learning and contemplation.

Learnt many ideas for improvement. The most important being to start somewhere and have a go.
Springfield City Group and Festival of Learning thank the guests for their participation and the courage to try something new and their very thoughtful contributions to another wonderful city-wide Festival of Learning.
