The popularity of a cricket academy in the heart of Greater Springfield could see it expanding to other schools sooner than expected.
The Shane Warne Cricket Star Academy QLD10 is at St Peters Lutheran College’s Springfield Campus and is aimed at “creating movement of change for tomorrow’s grassroots leaders”.
According to Shane Warne Cricket Star Academy QLD10’s head coach, Sashi Yarramsetti, the next generation of cricket stars could be living in Greater Springfield – one of the fastest growing regions in South-East Queensland.
Mr Yarramsetti, from Springfield Lakes, joined the Academy in February with more than six years’ experience as a cricket coach.
He said students learned the skills of the sport through three principles which included learning, leading and growing.
“Children learn the skills of sport within a professional and safe environment through our various sport academies,” he said.
“Skills learned in sport are skills for life. These include teamwork, honesty, commitment and resilience.
“We lead the way through our community heroes, business partners, ambassadors and multi award -winning program and systems, and through our programs, students grow and develop into good human beings.”
The Academy, which is suitable for students from the age of five, provides all-year round cricket coaching for students, helping to build confidence and develop a love for cricket.
Mr Yarramsetti said the Academy provided professional, highly trained, and qualified coaches, with school holiday training sessions also available to students.
“This is currently the only Academy based in Greater Springfield,” he said.
“Give your child the opportunity to get active while developing their cricket and social skills in a fun and supportive environment.”
Mr Yarramsetti enjoyed the game of cricket so much he left his engineering job and became a coach wih a passion to help young cricketers and work on their development.
“Shane Warne was a true legend of cricket, the greatest leg spinner the game has ever seen,” he said.
“He loved the sport and he wanted to share that, along with his incredible insights and knowledge, with the next generation.
“We are proud of what we achieved alongside Warnie in developing Cricket Star Academy. Because of him, the future of grassroots cricket is bright.”
